Tinder, one of the most popular dating-app is currently going through investigation. Whitney Wolfe, former marketing vice president is suing Tinder for sexual harrassment and discrimination. The fun, young and cool app suddenly takes on a very different aspect.
Wolfe’s lawsuit accuses Tinder Chief Marketing Officer, Justin Mateen of stripping her of a co-founder title as well as subjected her to constant sexually charged abuse and threat. Both Tinder CEO, Sean Rad and his corporate surpervisor have been described as being aware of the situation but they never intervened to put an end to it
“Immediately upon receipt of the allegations contained in Ms. Wolfe’s complaint, Mr. Mateen was suspended pending an ongoing internal investigation,” IAC said in a statement. “Through that process, it has become clear that Mr. Mateen sent private messages to Ms. Wolfe containing inappropriate content. We unequivocally condemn these messages, but believe that Ms. Wolfe’s allegations with respect to Tinder and its management are unfounded.”
Despite all the awful texts she received from Mateen after their break-up and submitted to justice, texts in which he called her a “desperate loser”, “a joke”, “a gold digger”, “a disease”, “a whore” and other terrible names, the company still refuses to believe that her statement is founded. As you can imagine, such a decision has sparked strong reactions among journalists and women in general. As it is described in the complaint, Tinder’s CMO suddenly “represents the worst of the misogynist, alpha-male stereotype too often associated with technology startups.”
Tinder, an alpha-male and misogynist app? Well that does not sound fun anymore.
